14 September 2017 Paraplanners Powwow: Held in rolling countryside, under open skies, in teepees.
What's it all about?
The Powwow will combine its usual popular blend of smaller, workshop-style, sessions that run concurrently, as well as the larger gatherings for all participants.
Adopting ‘unconference’ principles, Powwow participants will be invited – in advance of the event – to help determine the day’s topics.
Those topics will form the focus of sessions whose formats range from small interactive workshops to the Powwow itself – a gathering of all participants, designed to discuss the future of the profession, and conducted under Chatham House Rules.
But that’s not all. There’s something brand spanking new for 2017’s Paraplanners Powwow.
we have a new host!
Yes, you did hear that correctly. We have a NEW host for the 2017 Paraplanners Powwow. So, who will be stepping up to the mic to keep the conversation rolling in the teepees?
With 16 years in financial services under her belt, and although she goes by the title of Head of Technical at DB Wood, she’ll proudly tell you she is first and foremost a paraplanner. On the highly debated Powwow topic of favourite chocolate, she’ll momentarily consider the sophisticated Green & Blacks, but it’s always the Double Decker that wins out in the end.
Without further ado, meet your host, the AWESOME Caroline Stuart.
Powwow Guru: 7IM’s Justin urquhart stewart
Live from a teepee for his first time, we’re bringing you 7IM’s Co-founder and Head of Corporate Development, Justin Urquhart Stewart, as the national Powwow’s Guru speaker.
From starting in the vineyards of Europe to establishing the Broker Services at what became Barclays Stockbrokers. Today, Justin is widely known for having co-founded 7IM and for his trusted market commentary across TV, radio and press.
What he has planned for us we don’t know, but you can bet your bottom dollar that this braces wearing raconteur won’t disappoint.
Watch this space! The full line-up is to be announced very soon and when it is, you’ll be the first to know.
What we can tell you is, ‘pick n mix’ sessions are back by popular demand. We’ve listened to the topics and issues you have raised, and this is the driving force behind the Powwow programme.
Topics confirmed so far include:
- Tax Hackathon with James Hay’s Neil MacGillivray. Neil will answer all your tax questions covering all the latest developments.
- ‘Influencing back at the ranch’ campfire – where we will be tackling that age-old paraplanner conundrum – how do you get your work on board with the new ideas you want to implement? Our guru and other paraplanners will be sharing their tried and tested techniques.
There will be a number of Powwow guests – who will be either hosting or contributing to the day’s choice of sessions.
The day will then conclude with the Powwow itself – a 45-minute open discussion about topics voted for during the day by Powwow participants.
This is the running order for this year’s Paraplanners Powwow.

*Happy 5th Birthday Powwow! Are we really that old already?!

The CHOWWOW BEFORE THE POWWOW
We expect to host a Powwow dinner – or ‘Chowwow’ – on the evening of 13 September 2017 at The Cartwright Hotel in Aynho. When you book your place at the Powwow you’ll be asked to let us know if you’d be interested in joining the Chowwow. If you are, just let us know, and we’ll be in touch with more details closer to the event.
(PS The cost of the Chowwow is covered if your hotel room booking includes dinner.)
Not a paraplanner or administrator? the powwow’s not for you!
Powwows are created by paraplanners for outsourced and in-house paraplanners and administrators. If you do neither of these things for a living then – unless you’re a Powwow supporter or guest – please don’t book a ticket. If you’re still interested in coming along get in touch with us at email@example.com.
